Why These Differences Matter

Travelers today face a wide range of risks, from sudden illness to flight cancellations and weather disruptions. Having a plan that offers coverage for your needs and responsive support can make all the difference. Generali Global Assistance’s Premium Plan is built to provide peace of mind, with benefits that reflect real-world travel needs.

  • Higher Trip Interruption limits may mean fewer unexpected costs when a trip is interrupted for a covered event.
  • Emergency Assistance and Transportation coverage helps travelers access care with up to $1 million per person worth of coverage on our Premium Plan.
  • Coverage for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions is available if the Premium Plan is purchased prior to or within 24 hours of final trip payment, the traveler is medically able to travel at the time of purchase, and all prepaid trip costs subject to cancellation penalties or restrictions are insured*. This may include chronic illnesses, recent injuries, or ongoing treatments.
  • In-house claims processing for accountable and consistent service.
  • Identity Theft Resolution Services may add an extra layer of protection for security while abroad.

3. Political Conflict, Terrorism, and Global Unrest

International travel is increasingly affected by geopolitical volatility. Over 30% of survey respondents reported that safety concerns—including terrorism and civil unrest—are now a major factor when choosing destinations.

Our plans offer protection in some, but not all, of these scenarios:

  • Trip Cancellation coverage may apply if:
    • A terrorist act occurs in a destination listed on your itinerary within 30 days of your scheduled departure and that destination has not experienced a similar attack in the past 30 days.
    • If a traveling companion or family member is killed or seriously injured due to a terrorist act, you may also be covered under Trip Cancellation or Interruption.
  • Medical and Dental coverage may reimburse you for treatment if you are injured in a terrorist incident during your trip.

We don’t provide coverage to Restricted Destinations.

However, acts of war are excluded from coverage. U.S. federal law defines an act of war as:

  • Occurring during a declared war,
  • Involving armed conflict between two or more nations, or
  • Involving military forces of any origin.

1. Up to 175% of Trip Cost for Interruptions

Trip Interruption coverage is an often-overlooked coverage that’s part of many travel protection plans. While most providers offer plans that are able to reimburse between 100% and 150% of the insured trip cost, Generali Global Assistance’s Premium Plan may cover up to 175%. This additional coverage may help travelers recover not only the unused land or water arrangements for their trip but also the unexpected costs of returning home early or catching up to their tour, such as last-minute flights or ground transportation.

Example Scenario:

A traveler insured $4,000, for a 10-day trip. The traveler then experiences a medical emergency on the second day of their trip. In this example situation, they may be reimbursed $3,600 for the unused portion of the trip and up to $3,400 for emergency return expenses — totaling $7,000, or 175% of the original trip cost. That’s in addition to medical expenses that may be covered by travel protection.

This level of coverage helps provide a financial cushion that many plans may not offer, especially when travelers face costly disruptions.

2. Pre-Existing Medical Condition Coverage Available Until Final Payment

Getting coverage for pre-existing medical conditions is a common concern for travelers. Some travel protection plans offer a waiver for these conditions, but only if the plan is purchased within a narrow window, often 14 or 15 days after the initial trip deposit.

Generali Global Assistance’s Premium Plan offers a more flexible approach: Travelers may qualify for coverage for Pre-Existing Medical Conditions as long as the travel protection plan is purchased prior to or within 24 hours of their final trip payment.

This extended window to the point of final trip payment, rather than the initial payment, gives travelers more time to finalize their plans and still purchase coverage for pre-existing conditions, which can include chronic illnesses, recent injuries, or ongoing treatments. It’s a more flexible approach that accommodates real-world planning timelines.

3. Up to $1 Million Per Person in Emergency Assistance & Transportation coverage

Medical emergencies abroad can be both frightening and expensive. Generali Global Assistance’s Premium Plan includes up to $1 million per person in Emergency Assistance and Transportation coverage, for covered events.. This high coverage level is especially important for international travel, where medical costs can vary widely and evacuations can be extremely costly.

Why It Matters:

  • Emergency medical evacuations from remote areas can easily exceed $100,000.
  • Cruise ship emergencies can be particularly expensive — the CDC notes that medical evacuations from ships can exceed $100,000
  • Having higher coverage limits may help travelers avoid significant out-of-pocket expenses in emergency situations.

4. Identity Theft Resolution Services

Identity theft can happen anywhere and dealing with it while traveling adds another layer of unneeded stress. All of our plans include Identity Theft Resolution Services to help travelers recover from ID fraud that impacts them during their trip. This kind of service is not commonly available with most other travel protection plans.

Services include assistance with contacting credit bureaus, placing fraud alerts, and guidance on identity recovery steps. Generali Global Assistance’s Identity Theft Resolution Services are available for up to 180 days after the trip begins, to help travelers to resolve issues even after returning home.

5. In-House Claims and Customer Support

Dealing with insurance claims can be a frustrating experience, especially when it’s outsourced to third-party administrators. Generali Global Assistance handles claims entirely in-house, making for an efficient, consistent and accountable process.

Key Benefits:

  • Claims are processed by ours own teams, not outsourced.
  • Support is provided by award-winning representatives based in California and Florida.
  • Travelers can easily submit and track claims through our online eClaims portal.
  • Reimbursements are issued via digital payment methods for faster access to funds.

This approach may lead to fewer delays and confusion, giving travelers confidence that their claims will be handled efficiently and fairly.

Why Generali Global Assistance Stands Apart

While many travel protection plans offer basic coverage, Generali Global Assistance’s Premium Plan is designed to be a step above. These features aren’t just nice to have; they’re essential for travelers who want real travel protection when the unexpected happens.
