What You Need When Traveling to Greece

Passport

As a U.S. citizen traveling to Greece, you need a valid passport with at least one blank page to enter the country. Passport cards cannot be used, and your passport must remain valid for at least the duration of your stay, with the recommendation of six months beyond your visit. Greek law currently requires at least three months beyond your stay, but regulations can change at any time. Ensure you have the most up-to-date restriction details and leave yourself enough time to make any changes to your travel documents.

Visa

Anyone traveling from the United States may visit Greece for tourism or business for up 90 days within a 180-day period without a visa. Official or diplomatic passport holders or stays longer than 90 days require a visa, and travelers must register upon arrival in Greece.

Do You Need Travel Protection for Greece?

Unforeseen events have a way of derailing your plans when you travel abroad. They seem to come out of nowhere, leaving you without a solution to get you back on track. You might believe a travel protection plan only wastes your hard-earned money, especially when you have paid so much for this adventure to another country. In reality, travel protection may help protect your investment, pay for medical emergencies, trip cancellations and accounts for certain unexpected events.

Basic Travel Protection Coverage Inclusions

The stunning beauty of whitewashed buildings and blue-domed churches make Greece a destination choice for so many venturing into the Mediterranean region. In addition to exploring the archaeological sites from ancient ruins or sampling the culture and cuisine, the chance for unexpected delays does occur. These can cause out-of-pocket expenses to rise and throw a wrench in the smoothest of itineraries. With our Plans, we include many coverages such as:

  • Trip cancellations

  • Trip interruptions or delays

  • Medical and Dental

  • Emergency Evacuation

Public transportation delays may cause you to miss a connection. That can lead to added costs for meals, lodging, or getting on a different schedule to still reach your destination. Travel advisories due to adverse weather often arrive without warning, causing cruise ships to remain in port and flights to be rerouted to different airports.

Our coverage helps reimburse you for certain reasonable expenses. We offer three different plans, so you can select the one which suits you best.

Important Note: The Travel Delay coverage may cover delays of 10+ hours with the Standard Plan, 8+ hours with the Preferred Plan, and 6+ hours with the Premium Plan.

Travel Protection Coverage Options: Travel Delay and Trip Interruption coverage go hand in hand. Trip Interruption may help reimburse you for added transportation, unused lodging, and missed cruise days, while Travel Delay may help reimburse certain additional expenses like meals and overnight lodging.

Plan for the Unforeseeable

Greece offers a unique scenic beauty, from its mountainous regions to its gorgeous coastlines and the close proximity of its islands. There are always potential situations outside your control. While certain incidents may come with specific restrictions, the peace of mind that can come from having the right travel protection often outweighs the potential costs of securing protection.  Travel protection can help protect your trip investment, provide coverage for certain unforeseen events, and act as a safety net when plans go awry.

Help Protect Your Belongings

Your luggage and personal belongings deserve protection when traveling. Imagine arriving in Greece with damaged luggage or no luggage at all. We offer coverage with our three plans.

Baggage coverage offers reimbursement for:

  • Damages

  • Losses

  • Thefts

  • Reissuing of essential documents (passports, visas or tickets)

If your baggage is delayed, we may help reimburse you for the reasonable costs of clothing and personal items you need to purchase in the interim. This also includes expenses associated with retrieving your baggage and having it returned to you.

Filing a claim: When you recognize your bag is delayed, missing, or stolen,  immediately report the incident to your hotel manager, tour guide or local authorities and obtain a written report. Take the necessary steps to help protect your items from further damage, and you may receive reimbursement for  necessaryrepairs.

Certain items may not be covered, so review the Plan Documents for a detailed list of any exclusions. Also, keep all receipts, as items without receipts are may be reimbursed based on only 75% of the Actual Cash Value.

Help Protect Yourself

One of the biggest reasons to opt for travel insurance with assistance services is travel Medical and Dental coverage. Our travel protection offers medical assistance for expenses not fully covered by your primary or secondary insurance carriers.

Covered medical costs may include:

  • Services of medical professionals

  • Hospital charges

  • Emergency treatment

  • Medical bills

  • Local ambulance services

  • Prescription drugs and medicines

Our plans provide emergency assistance, which may help you obtain quality healthcare while minimizing unexpected out-of-pocket expenses.  Help protect yourself and your loved ones during your Greek adventure with travel protection.

Greece Travel Tips

Here are some top travel tips for visiting Greece:

  1. Plan Your Itinerary Carefully: With so many islands and archaeological sites, you'll want to prioritize your top desired experiences and plan your itinerary accordingly. Decide whether want to focus on just Athens and the mainland or island-hop Santorini, Mykonos, and Crete.

  2. Learn Some Handy Greek Phrases: Many Greeks speak English, especially those working in the tourism industry, but if you take the time to learn a few basic Greek phrases such as "please," "thank you," and "hello," you'll connect better with the locals.

  3. Take Ferries Between Islands: The Greek ferry system is an economical and scenic way to travel between the various islands. Buy tickets in advance for popular routes during high season.

  4. Eat Like a Local: Don't just stick to the tourist-flocked restaurants. Ask locals for recommendations on authentic Greek tavernas and try regional specialties like dolmades, tzatziki, and regional cheeses and wines.

  5. Visit During Shoulder Seasons: The most popular time to visit is June through August when temperatures are hot. Consider visiting in May or September/October to avoid crowds and still enjoy good weather at lower prices.
